McGill AirSilence Expands Line of SOUNPAK® Silencers for HVAC Systems/Industrial Applications

McGill AirSilence LLC has significantly expanded its complete line of SOUNPAK straight and elbow silencers to include many more cross-sections and lengths. SOUNPAK silencers have been designed, tested, and manufactured to ensure the highest performance and most efficient operation at an economical price. McGill AirSilence’s full-time acoustical engineering staff at the company’s NVLAP® -accredited acoustical testing laboratory obtained all silencer test data, utilizing the latest revision of ASTM E 477.

SOUNPAK® round, rectangular, and NO-LOSS™ duct silencers

Rectangular Duct Silencers

Rectangular models are available for velocities from 0 to 2,500 fpm. Because of their modular form, units can be arranged to suit an application’s specific space requirements. Erosion-resistant rectangular duct silencers are typically used in applications such as the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, electronics, and medical industries, where there is concern that insulation fibers might get into the airflow. No-fill rectangular duct silencers are used for applications where sound-absorbing insulation is prohibited. The newest product offerings are two rectangular silencers utilizing an FDA-approved vapor barrier, both fully tested in accordance with ASTM E 477.

The galvanized outer casing of all SOUNPAK rectangular silencers has a minimum thickness of 22 gauge. Perforated galvanized steel baffles (minimum thickness of 26 gauge) are filled with sound-absorbing insulation that will not settle or promote the growth of bacteria, mold, vermin, or insects. The acoustical fill has been tested in accordance with UL 723 procedures and meets NFPA 90A requirements. Special metals, heavy-duty shell and components, matching connections, special sizes and barrier materials, and special features for contaminated flows are also available.

Round Duct Silencers

A wide variety of round models are available for velocities from 0 to 10,000 fpm. McGill AirSilence offers bulletless silencers that can be placed anywhere in the duct system. The silencers generate no more noise than single-wall duct of equal cross-sectional area, and have the same nominal pressure drop as single-wall duct and elbows of equal cross-sectional area.

For applications requiring more mid- and high-frequency noise control, McGill AirSilence has a complete line of round silencers with an internal sound-absorbing body (bullet). If pressure loss is a critical item, all round silencers with an internal sound-absorbing body may be outfitted with an optional add-on tail cone to reduce the static pressure loss of the silencer.

Special Applications

McGill AirSilence also manufactures SOUNPAK silencers for special applications for rigid design parameters, unique space limitations, or other special conditions. The company’s engineers will provide a feasibility evaluation of any silencer application, followed by a detailed, firm price quotation.
